Dann Jackson

DannEverything in Dann Jackson's career has led to this point in creating The 17th Street Art Fair in Atlantic Station. As a professional artist, exhibiting in festivals, galleries and juried exhibitions to 35 years' experience in every phase of festival production, Dann has a well rounded knowledge of what is required to produce  successful events.

Beginning at age 14 as a student of artist Tom Powers, Dann knew early on that a lifetime in the visual arts was his calling. Not just creating art, but in creating the events where other talented people can expose their work to the public. There-in is the thrill that to this day fulfills Jackson's creative juices.

Dann holds a BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Georgia's renowned Lamar Dodd School of Art and a MFA from the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de allende, Mexico, after doing post graduate work at the University of Mississippi. At about the same time former art teacher Tom Powers was laying the groundwork for his now legendary Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival beginning in 1971. From the earliest days Dann was involved in all areas of producing this massive event held over Labor Day weekend outside Newnan, Ga., and literally changed the way many festivals produced their events.By 1973 Dann was named Festival Director of Powers' Crossroads and worked closely with exhibitors, numbering up to 300 each year. In 1975 Powers' Crossroads became a non-profit event produced by the local community and the newly formed  Board of Directors asked Jackson to continue on as Festival Director, as well as serve as a Board member. He continued serving as a bo ard member and Promotions Director until retirement in 2005.
Dann gave up his duties as Festival Director in 1976 to join the McIntosh Trail Arts Council in Peachtree City, Ga. and created the first Shakerag Invitational Arts Festival in Peachtree City. Shakerag continues to this day as a successful community event.

In 1981 Dann began his own art production company, Art Ventures, Ltd., to produce arts & craft shows in major malls around the Southeast. While the times and economics have drastically altered the environment for producing large shows in malls, Art Ventures, Ltd. continues producing quality events. Of particular note were the Fine art and Fine Craft shows at Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham, Al. which was recognized as one of Sunshine Artist Magazine's Top Ten Mall Shows from 1994-1996.

Now, Dann takes on his dream-of-a-lifetime - The 17th Street Art Fair in Atlantic Station. With the lack of a proper location for a top quality exhibition in the Atlanta area, Atlantic Station fulfills that need beautifully in its character and visibility in Midtown Atlanta, combining location with the affluent, educated population of Midtown Atlanta. As a significant example, Donald Trump's Trump Towers will begin construction this fall just two blocks from Atlantic Station at 15th Street. All the elements are in place for a highly successful Fine Art and Fine Craft Fair in Atlantic Station.---------
